It’s simple to be financially successful, at least on paper. Plan. Reduce. Eliminate. That’s it. In the real world, however, that can be a lot easier said than done.
The first thing you need to do is be honest about your debt. If you hide it, it can fester and grow, which will make you even more ashamed of how much you owe. If you are honest with yourself and others, that won’t be a problem.
After that’s taken place, make sure you focus on what you need to address. Credit card debt. Credit cards are the largest problem for most people because they have such high interest rates and eat up so much of people’s incomes. The best way to avoid this is not to do it in the first place. If you must do it, make sure that you use a credit card only for emergencies and always make more than the minimum payment when the bill comes in. Otherwise you end up paying hundreds of dollars in interest charges that you otherwise could have avoided.
